Latest Wind Farm Threat to Shipdham & Daffy Green
On 2 August 2011, Ecotricity submitted yet another application to build a wind farm on land north of Shipdham.
This is the fourth wind farm application for this site which is in the middle of the hamlet of Daffy Green.
To check the latest status of this application on the website of Breckland District Council, click here. It appears that there is little information available on the Breckland site as yet about this application although the date for comments by local people has been set to 2 September 2011. It would be advisable to keep your eye on the Breckland planning site to check for further information.
The residents of Daffy Green and Shipdham have been persecuted by repeated wind farm applications by this developer for 10 years. The local people have had to fight three public inquiries and mount a High Court challenge. It has been repeatedly demonstrated to the satisfaction of a number of decision makers that a wind farm cannot be developed on this small plot of land which is surrounded by homes, and yet there is still no respite.
That a developer like Ecotricity can repeatedly submit planning applications for a single site over a period of 10 years is grossly unfair and shows how poorly local residents are treated by the planning system. The financial and other losses inflicted on the local people can never be compensated.
This website gives information about the history of the struggle by local people to get a fair hearing in dealing with the wind farm aspirations of Ecotricity and also gives some details - where we know them - about the current application. Material will be added to the site over the next weeks.
